SAINT CAMILLUS OF LELLIS, Priest.
Born in Chietti in Abruzzi in the year 1550. At first he was a soldier and then, after his conversion to a more religious life, he dedicated himself to the care of the sick. He completed his studies and became a priest, then he founded a religious congregation which set up hospitals to look after the sick. He died in Rome in the year 1614.
REFLECTION:
St Camillus had a great compassion for the sick, the poor and the needy during his days. Regardless of the fact that he was a soldier and soldiers then were usually known for their wayward lifestyle, yet he didn't allow those worldly influences and passions to affect his love for Christ which he attested through the care and love he showed to the sick.
With the little he had he was able to open up a congregation which took special care of the sick. We are called today by Christ to seek him through the sick, the needy in our midst with the little we have just like St mother Theresa of Calcutta would exhort us; we must continue to give till it begins to hurt us.
We ask Christ through the intercession of St Camillus of Lellis to grant us the gift and love for the sick and the needy in our midst. May we see and experience him through them.
PRAYER:
Almighty, ever-living God, you gave your priest St Camillus an extraordinary love for the sick. Help us through his intercession to love and serve you in our brethren, so that at the hour of our death, we may come before you with confidence. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
