The Journey in the Jungle..... Season 01......
6:05am....
Johnson was sitting at the living room staring at his bags. His parents had planned that he would be taking the first bus to Lagos. He was already prepared just waiting for his father to come out. He knew his father coming out would affect his wallet positively. He only came back to his consciousness when his parents entered the living room with Joseph.
"John" his father called out
"Yes Dad" he answered
"When you get to Lagos, please the first thing to do is to give us a call okay?"
"Yes Dad" he said holding the ropes at the end of his bag hanging behind his back.
"John" his mum called out
"Yea Mum", holding his shoulder and drawing him closer she said
"We shall be contacting you at intervals so that you tell us where you are okay?"
"Yes mum, but I haven't gone there yet"
"Just ask anybody besides you okay"
"Yes mum"
"John" his father called out reaching his pocket. That was the moment he was waiting for. His father started counting out some currency notes after making a little spat at his right thumb. His eyes counted the notes as his father's thumb swerved along. He prayed silently that his father wouldn't stop but that didn't actually happen as he willed. He knew there's no way his father could hand him over the wrap. The currency were 1000 naira notes. He was able to count up to twenty. He already solved the mathematics. His father handed them over to him. Raising up his face
"I hope that this would be enough to lead you through. Buy whatever you need and make sure you are comfortable okay"
"Yes Dad"
He reached for his shirt pocket and brought out some money. He selected four 500 naira notes and handed them over to Johnson
"Buy something for your uncle and for your cousins"
"Yes Dad". Just then Joseph came with the phone
" Sir you have a call"
"Alright" he took the phone and went inside. Regina watched as Hus husband went inside with the phone. She reached for her purse and hurriedly brought out some wrapped money. They were made of twenty 500 naira notes. She handed it to her son
"Take this and add them up to the ones you are having. Make sure that you fill alright ok"
"Yes Mum". Johnson had known that his Mum would surely do something.
"Is there anything you need"
"No mum". Just then David came out and handed the phone back to Joseph.
"John, I would like you to reach in time okay, so you have to leave now"
"Johnson, don't enter the luxurious bus, look for the mini bus okay"
"Mum but why?"
"Just do what I asked you to do. I don't like those long buses. They are not usually safe"
"And besides, you would reach faster with the smaller buses" David added
"Okay Dad, I'm good to go". His mother drew him closer, placing her hands around her shoulder
"I will miss you my son"
"Mum I will be back soon"
"Alright. Remember to call us okay"
"Okay mum"
"John, Joseph will take you to the park. He will make sure that you are ready to go before he comes back. Remember to take the little bus"
"Yes Dad, I love you mum, I love you dad."
"I love you too. Be safe". They accompanied him to the car. Joseph took off.
6:20 am
Joseph arrived at the YOUNG SHALL GROW PARK. Johnson look around. Just then some men rushed them
"Which side are you going, Lagos, Abuja, Warri, Sokoto.......". Joseph didn't talk to them he just went on to purchase the ticket. Joseph got to the counter, there were others waiting to pick the ticket.
"Please where can I get ticket for the small bus?" Joseph asked the man with numerous wrinkles in his face sitting over the counter. He pointed at the direction.
"John let's go". Joseph said to Johnson
"Joseph, I have never entered this luxurious bus for once. Please I want to enter that one"
"John, your father gave express instruction that you take the small bus". Joseph got the ticket and handed it over to him.
"You can get seated till its time to enter the bus"
"You will be going now right"
"No, I will wait till your bus leaves"
"But I have gotten the ticket now"
"That's your father's instruction John"
"Alright". He sat down at one of the benches reserved for the passengers. Just then, as he wanted to reach his bag his hand flicked down someone's purse, both her phone and other thongs in her hand fell down. He rushed immediately
"Oh I'm very sorry". He helped and picked up the items still apologizing.
"I'm sorry"
"Its alright, its just a Nokia torch" she said with smiles. She put it in her purse and dropped her bag before her. She sat down besides Johnson.
"Thanks"
"What for?" She asked
"For not beating me" Johnson replied just immediately. She smiled gently exposing her fine and neatly arranged set of teeth. Johnson observed her open teeth and fine dimples. The girl was beautiful. He seemed to be lost in esctacy.
"Are you going to Lagos" Johnson couldn't help asking
"Do they have options for those going to Ose Main Market". She replied with soft smile. Johnson couldn't help admiring her sense of humour. He chuckled.
"Which side are you going to in Lagos"
"Satellite town and you?
"Maryland" he replied with little hesitation. "Are you entering the big bus or the small one?"
"The big bus of course what of you" she asked facing him
"The small one"
"Wow alright"
"How much is the ticket for this big bus?"
"4600?" She replied just immediately "And the small one? She asked
"The same price, 4600". Johnson was surprised that both were the same price. He thought to himself that it would be something nice if he should make the journey with the girl. He decided to try his best.
"Since both are the same price, why not go with the small bus"
"No I prefer the big one"
"At least we would reach fast" he tried convincing her.
She smiled "Don't worry, I'm not in a hurry". He knew that going further won't make sense. He decided to take his chances. He went to Joseph
"Joseph, do you know that both the big bus and the small one are the same price "
"Yea, is anything the matter"
"Why going with the small one since they are of the same price"
"John, you know what your parents said. I can't go against them please. You are going with the small one. Don't worry very soon it will get filled up and you will leave ok". Johnson knew his father's chauffeur. He wouldn't easily change. He went and sat down.
"Is he your brother? She asked. Johnson knew she was referring to Joseph
" Yes".
"Your bus is getting filled up, hope you are ready to go? She asked with concern. Johnson felt more distressed looking at the small bus getting filled up. He looked back and saw Joseph answering call. He decided to take his chances. He got up immediately
"What's your seat number" he asked her
"25, is anything the matter?"
"No, I just want to know" he left. He went to straight to the man at the counter. "Excuse me sir"
The man looked at him "Do you want to buy ticket?"
"No sir, I have already bought one but its from the small bus. I don't want to enter the small bus again, can I enter the big one?"
"Of course, just go there and tell them you want to change bus"
"And not only that sir, please I want to sit besides that girl" he said that pointing at the girl. She was answering a call.
"What's her number?" The man asked

"Sir please is there nothing you can do?"
"You know what to do, it depends on you"
"How much sir"
"You have 1000 let me see what I can do"
"But sir its too much"
"It seems you are not serious"
"Alright". Johnson made for his pocket and brought out the five hundred naira and was about to hand it over to the man before he heard from his behind
"What do you think you are doing?" It was Joseph "I'm calling your father right away"
"Wait wait wait Joseph" he followed him.
"Your bus is already filled up and you want to elude it"
"Joseph please, listen to me. I don't want to feel bored in this journey. I need someone I would discuss with, please"
"You would always sit besides someone"
"No, I want to sit besides her"
"Who?" He motioned towards her "Do you know her before?
"No, we just met. I want to sit besides her. I have already told the man at the counter"
"What about the small bus"

"And what about your parents, what will I tell them"
"They will only know if you tell them. I'm safe if you keep your mouth shut"
"So what are we going to do now"
"He has agreed to make me a space besides her" Joseph paused a little bit.
"Give me the other ticket" he took it "rush before the man changes his mind". He took the ticket back while Johnson paid the man and got the space. Just then the bus got filled up and passengers began to climb the bus. He saw the girl carried her bags and went up.
"Joseph, I'm really very grateful. Thank you"
