ST HENRY, EMPEROR.
(May 6, 972 – July 13, 1024)
Born in Bavaria in the year 973. He succeeded his father as Duke of Bavaria and later was elected Holy Roman Emperor. He was outstanding for his reforms in the church and for his encouragement of missionary activity; he set up many dioceses and founded monasteries. He died in the year 1024 and was canonized by Eugene III in the year 1146.
REFLECTION:
Oh Christian soul, this is an emperor we are talking about. Someone who had the highest authority when he was alive. Instead of him to abuse them just like other bloodthirsty emperors and rulers of the world then, he employed it just like Constantine for the service of the God, the Church and humanity.
If an emperor with all his riches, wealth and authority could make it to sainthood, what of us who are not that affluent, yet the little talent and wealth we have we use them against our fellow human beings.
We ask God through the intercession of St Henry, that we may learn to use our authority, wealth, affluence and talent for his glory and for the salvation of our fellow human beings.
PRAYER:
Lord God, you endowed Saint Henry with abundant grace and led him from an earthly to a heavenly kingdom. Grant us, at his intercession, that, amid this world's changes, we may with pure minds, hasten on our way to you.
Through Christ our lord.
