MY NAME IS ELIZABETH SEASON 03

My name is Elizabeth… Season 03…
I rushed back to Autin’s office and batched in like I did the previous time. When he saw he stood up wondering why the sudden outburst. I was filled with rage and disappointed.
“Did you have to tell her?” I asked.
“Tell who? What are you talking about?” he asked back.
“I asked you what you wanted, I would be pleased to have done whatever you demanded, but giving me out this way doesn’t make you an honourable man.” I ranted.
He tried as much as possible to maintain his calmness. “Lizzy, why not you sit down and let me understand what you are talking about. I mean, I’m lost here and ranting at me all day for something I don’t understand won’t and can’t help matters here.”
When he said this I became confused. I strolled about his office with my hand on my head, I was devastated.
“Lizzy,” he called again. “Please sit down,”

“I can’t sit right now.”
“Alright, then calm down and let me understand what is going on. Who are you accusing me of telling something, and what exactly is that?”
I really calmed down. “Are you telling me you didn’t tell Mrs Catherine?”
“Tell her what exactly?”
“You of all people shouldn’t be asking me this question.”
“Alright, what did she say?”
“Oh you did.”
“Lizzy, believe me, I didn’t tell anybody anything.”
“Then how did Mrs Catherine find out?”
“She found out? How?”
“I should be asking you for God’s sake. I thought we were only persons that know about this in this office?”
“Of course we are.”
“Then how did she know?”
“Just calm down and tell me what she told you. How did she ask you that?” I became bewildered. Mrs Catherine was like a mother to me, and I took her for a role model. I couldn’t imagine the level of disappointed and distrust she must have felt. I told Austin how she brought it up all of a sudden just before me. I can’t narrate how I felt and my butts got glued to the sit. It felt hurt and miserable, I felt I could disappear. I didn’t want to sit down but I sat down telling him all that happened in her office. Austin spoke up again,
“Lizzy, I swear, I didn’t tell her anything.”
“How then did she find out? I’m finished.”
“She must have used your psychology, and you fell for that.”
“What am I supposed to do now?”
“Maybe, you have to own up.”
“Own up? Please don’t tell me you are considering this.”
“Why won’t they consider you? After all the successes you’ve made for them. All you is to tell them what happened and I know they would listen.”
“It’s obvious you don’t get this, do you? Did you observe the look on his face while he uttered those threats that morning?”
“Of course I did, but that’s the normal threat that accompanied one’s first anger. Listen, you have already made it up for the company from the contract we secured, Mr Williams would have no option than to consider you putting into consideration the circumstance that warranted you to do that. I mean, is that not obvious to you? What is 5% to be compared with over 50 billion contract deal we secured for this country? Even if he is not a human being, he will have to consider.”
“That’s not the point here Austin. That contract Mr Kingsley got, Mr Williams had sought for it over and over again, but couldn’t get it. He had paid in a lot of money to get his way through it but wasn’t successful. All of a sudden Mr Kingsley got his hands on it, and this has been the second time Mr Kingsley had taken a mega contract he had sought for. He considers Mr Kingsley as his enemy and not an ordinary rival.”
“Alright, even if he considered him as his enemy, you have made up to him, to the company.” Austin said.
“That’s what you think. Listen, have you asked yourself which company in Nigeria would one request to buy its signature for 70 million and they would refuse, just an ordinary paper? Why was he demanding for the 5% of all the contracts they lay their hands on? Did you ask yourself why any of the members of the board didn’t argue against that, including Catherine? This is because they have made up their minds not to give it out no matter what, and that was why they were demanding for such percentage to dissuade him. Mr Kinsley was willing to buy it if they had increased the money, but they didn’t, simply because they didn’t want to. This it to tell you the type of underserving grudge Mr Williams have for Mr Kingsley and his company. This is not just a matter getting him another contract, it’s just a matter of seeing Mr Kingsley go down.” We had a deep breath and there seemed to be a thoughtful silence between us. Austin seemed to get me a bit with his positive countenance.
Meanwhile, while I left for Austin’s office, we didn’t know that the Mr Williams the CEO had sent for Mrs Catherine by the company security personnel. They escorted her to his office. When she entered, he was standing, and Mrs Catherine spoke in her graceful and firm tone.
“Williams,” she called him. She was the only person calling our CEO by his first name. She continued, “I do understand that you have your suspicion about everyone, it’s not your fault. You can always get my undivided attention at the snap of your finger, but do well to understand that asking your security personnel to escort me here means nothing other than insult and annihilation.”
“Insult and annihilation, is it?” he said turning to her with his smiles, “Alright, I apologize for that. I trust you can always forgive my little misgivings, if I may name it that way, whenever I grow such suspicion and the level of my trust to everyone diminishes.”
“That’s quite well for you, I believe you could have done well if you had not allowed your paranoid state to overtake the better part of your brain, with all due respect.”
“Of course I do understand, but I was thinking you help me analyse better the very fact that your signature is here,” he brought out a copy of the paper and tossed it before her. She didn’t look at it because she had already seen it.
“I can’t remember seeing only my signature on it.”
“Exactly Catherine, this is why I still scramble for explanations. Listen, you are the next authority in the hierarchy of this company. I made you a major signatory here to sign up some contracts on behalf of the company when I’m not available. You have a better part of my attention in this company, and don’t say I’m naïve because it’s only one who has easy access to me that can get my requirements so easily as to sell it out, not just any person, but to an enemy of the company.”
“And you think I’m the enemy here?”
“I don’t know, perhaps that’s the reason why you should be talking.”
“You know, one thing you’ve failed to see here is that we are both victims of the circumstance. Whoever got my signature and fingerprints figured out a delightful way to get yours, and you fell for that. We both fell for that. I know of only one person who could reach me that easily, it’s not even my secretary.”
“I need name or names as the case may be.”
“Before that last two weeks, how many documents did you sign?”
“Only five,”
“Is there anyone who among the list who shouldn’t bring you a document to sign?”
“Anyone, anyone, anyone, yes! I think I had someone, yes of course, but please, don’t tell me it’s her.”
“That’s exactly why I find it had to believe.” He put his finger in the mouth in amazement.
“This is quite funny, isn’t it?”
“That’s exactly the reason you should have considered how your fingerprints, especially the right thumb was gotten. Perhaps, you left the office while she was still present. And signature was signed using your customized pen, you see, you have the major question to answer here, Mr CEO.” Mrs Catherine thundered lightly.
“It’s true, I think I may have an idea how she did that. She had offered me her pen while she knew I had my customized pen always on me. Perhaps, I did her the favour of returning her pen back. She was good, isn’t she?”
“That’s your problem to take care of, any other questions?” Mrs Catherine asked with utter meanness in her tone.
“Not at all.”
“May I take my leave now?” she asked.
“Sure!” she made for the door. But before she could leave he called her “Catherine!” she turned. “Thank you.” He said.
“I have tried to serve you and the company well. If my service is no longer needed, I could easily leave that to have my loyalty on a cause I believe in questioned.” She left. Mr William took up the intercom and started talking over it.
Just then we heard unruly steady step outside, “What’s that?” I asked Austin.
“I don’t know, let me check.” He stood up and had a glimpse at the door outside. He shut it back and came closer. “It’s the security personnel, they are searching every office. They have found out.”
They have found out I repeated, it’s a dead end. I should have left long before now.

From the altar

I was distracted when I saw her first during that morning mass. I couldn't concentrate because the beauty was ravishing. Of course I...
